That being said, sometimes the issue preventing your heat from working doesn’t require a professional heating repair. Before reaching out to us, try these simple troubleshooting tips. You may save yourself the cost of a service visit!
Double-check that your thermostat has batteries and has the function set to “auto” or “heat.” The thermostat will also need to be set higher than the current temperature of the home.
Sometimes, electrical issues happen and breakers are tripped for safety. Check that your furnace’s or boiler’s breaker is on. Red emergency switches should also be on. These can most often be found at the top of your basement stairs and on your heating unit.
For boiler systems, look to see that your radiator knobs are fully open. Radiators typically have only two settings: open or closed. For furnace systems, check that all vents are open and free from obstructions, including those in unused rooms. Vents can easily become blocked by furniture, shelves, rugs or houseplants, so be sure to clear any obstacles to maintain proper airflow.
Your propane tank has a tank gauge. Verify that you have enough fuel by checking it. Your tank should be at least 30% full. If not, call us for a fuel delivery right away.
